════════════════════╝
* NOTE: If you are a registered user of ULP and have not already received a
key file (e.g. you have the ancient 10-digit registration code),
you will need a key file for this version.
Send a request via Internet to "zack@hom.net"
or call Zack's Shack BBS (see support.doc)
To upgrade your ULP system from a previous version, read the following brief
instructions, in order, from the version you are running to the current
version. Note that versions before 2.25 are no longer supported. Please
upgrade if you want support.
I strongly suggest you read through the HISTORY.DOC as well, which provides
detailed information on the changes and bugs fixed over the course of ULP's
development.
In general, to install new versions, start by copying the new executables and
documentation over your old files. For 1.x versions, take care to not
overwrite your ULP configuration files with the samples!
Version 2.21 through 2.25:
No configuration file adjustments are required.
Copy the EXE's and ULPSM.HLP over previous versions.
Version 2.20:
You must run UPDATE.EXE included in the ULPU_220.ZIP archive to update your
configuration file(s) to the new 2.20 format. This archive also contains
sample user and sysop message templates for the new messaging subsystem.
You must also rename your process data file in your ULP subdirectory to the
same base filename as your configuration file except with the extension
".PDT". For example, if your old process data file was named "PROCESS.DAT"
and your ULP configuration file is named "ULP.CFG", rename "PROCESS.DAT" to
"ULP.PDT". Alternately, just re-initialize the process data file with
ULPSM.
Version 2.13:
No configuration file adjustments are required.
Version 2.12:
No configuration file adjustments are required. However, if you installed
2.11 before it was recalled, go into the "virus/file checkers" menu, pick
one (any one) of your file checkers and press F10. This will reset
defective data created when adjustments were made with ULPSM 2.11.
Version 2.11:
The new "run time" flags for the virus, GIF and JPEG checkers must be set.
If you installed ULP prior to 2.11, these will be disabled ('N') and must
be enabled ('O', 'E' or 'B') if you want the associated checkers executed.
The new "process nested subdirectories" flag must be set. If you installed
ULP prior to 2.11, this will be defaulted off ('N'). It should be turned
on ('Y') for proper operation of ULP.
Version 2.10:
No configuration file adjustments are required unless you wish to repack
nested archives as ULP did before. If so, set the "repack nested archives"
flag to 'Y'.
Version 2.05:
Add "@FILE@" to the end of your text and graphical editor command strings.
Version 2.04:
No configuration file adjustments are required.
Version 2.03:
If you are using the FOSSIL interface of ULP for online testing, you must
alter your PCBTEST.BAT command line, as the functionality of the -X command
line switch has changed. It now does not require a port number, as ULP
will decipher the port number from the door drop file. For most sysops
using the FOSSIL interface, simply using -X is sufficient. Refer to the
documentation for more information.
The new "process nested archives" and "process nested GIF/JPEG files" flags
must be set. If you installed prior to 2.03, these will be defaulted off
('N'). I strongly recommend turning them both on ('Y').
If JPEG file checking is desired and you installed prior to this release,
you should reset the desired limits for JPEG via ULPSM.
Version 2.02:
No configuration file adjustments are required.
Version 2.01:
Use ULPSM and either set up all of your upload directory sets to the proper
conference assignments or disable the conference assignment. Currently,
without making this adjustment, all upload directory sets are now defined
as the main board conference (conference 0).
Version 2.00:
Re-installation from scratch is required; there is no update utility
included in the distribution archive. You must install ULP 2.00 into a new
subdirectory; do not copy over your 1.x files. If you are a registered
user of ULP, copy your existing ULP.KEY file into the new ULP 2.00
subdirectory.
Follow the installation instructions in the ULP.DOC file to use the new
automatic installation system that is built into ULPSM. This system
generates a working configuration file and all required external
configuration files, leaving only the documented adjustments to complete
your setup.
Once you have fully configured ULP 2.00, copy your existing ULP duplication
database files to your 2.00 subdirectory. Do not copy your old BBS ads
database or process data file to your ULP 2.00 subdirectory, as they are
not compatible.
* NOTE: If you have a lot of work invested in your ULP configuration (e.g.
a large number of upload directories), download the file
ULP_1TO2.ZIP, which contains the necessary update files for
updating from 1.1x to 2.00. However, for most sysops, updating in
this fashion will be much more effort and error-prone than using
ULPSM's automatic installation!
